One of the main advantages of advanced internet technologies is the possibility of hour targeting for ads served to web sites.
Exactly how such targeting is done, that is a tech issue far beyond our e-Marketing topic. What is important to us, e-Marketers, is to be aware of this facility web servers have and use it towards making online campaigns more efficient.

Hour targeting is especially useful when:

- we already know the online buying habits of our target;

- we want to create an association between our products and a certain time of the day when interest might be higher;

- we try to avoid a certain category of customers that are known to be more active at a certain hour interval;

- we know from previous researches that sites where we are advertising have different categories of visitors, with different interests and behaviour, active at certain hours.

Let us try imagining some examples of justified hour targeting:

- Premium IT products (such as laptops) could probably use a business hours targeting, on the premises that active, working professionals have more buying power. Similarly, off-hours and weekend targeting could be used when promoting basic desktop systems with a lower price to a more younger audience with less buying power and/or buying decision.

- FMCG products might benefit from targeting ads within hour intervals when these products are more likely to be utilized. We would probably want to place ads for coffee on news-delivering web sites during the morning hours; and advertising creams and gels for muscular pains later in the afternoon or evening, when such pains are more likely to occur.

- It is widely known that surfers using a dial-up connexion get online in the evening and at night. Therefore, if we are to promote products or services destined to dial-up users (modems, access cards, offers to switch to a superior connexion) it only makes more business sense to target late hours.

Interesting enough, such hour targeting is not always successful. A media planner might be blinded by the revelation of a cool method to raise efficiency of online campaigns like an adserver, only to realise at a later time that it can be more of a bother. For example, a banner for a banking product placed on a business portal would not need hour targeting, as professionals visiting such portals usually have permanent internet connection whether it is at office, at home, or is using a mobile solution. A regular reader of Financial Times online might opt to access the site in the evening, from the comfort of his home, long after the regular “business hours”, and would be a missed target if we employ hour targeting.

To conclude, hour targeting for online campaigns makes a very powerful and efficient tool, but needs to be performed after carefully assessing surfing and buying behaviours of the visitors on web sites where we advertise.

Where besides walmart.com can i find free sample? or deal such as when places submit things for free & such?
every time i look for free sample sites, and other deals sites pop up that need you to register for this and that, i dont mind a short survey though. but i in recent times want a way to try…

Where can I find “The Backyardigans Toddler Room contained by a Box” In Canada? I can’t find it on Walmart.com.?
i had to go online an order it from the site, cant find that stuff within my area either (especiallly the wiggels stuff) i go to the shopping precinct or cvs and get a disposable visa card to purchase items…

Where does Walmart.com ship from?
I pre-ordered Halo 3: ODST from Walmart.com, and, as you can guess I’m a bit impatient. I pre-ordered it on September 13th, and they shipped it on the 22nd (today). It says the earliest delivery date is September 30th. What the hell?!?!?

Most Americans value and enjoy Labor Day as the final holiday of summer. It has come to denote the unofficial end of the vacation season: one last chance to parade, picnic, barbecue, and lounge carefree in the warmth of a high sun before youngsters head back to the rigors of school and all of us, young or old, grow ever more mindful, in the breeze of increasingly autumnal winds, that winter harshness waits impatiently as the year draws to a close. Hot-dogs, spare-ribs, the final day of the State Fair, Jerry Lewis still sweating up money for “his kids” and, this election year, the opening ceremonies of the Republican National Convention are all images that come to mind when considering the early September holiday.

It is altogether fitting to relax and enjoy the season’s last 3-day weekend in whatever way best readies you for cruelties that a Minnesota winter is almost certain to bring. However, it can be constructive to reflect on the fact that Labor Day exists not merely to provide an additional day off from work before summer’s end; Labor Day was created to honor and commemorate the contributions that workers and organized labor have made to the strength and health of our nation.

An eight hour workday, a forty-hour work week, mandatory time and a half for overtime, unemployment insurance, collective bargaining rights, are but a few of the practices, now standard, that were once distant goals fought and longed for by earlier generations of laborers. In the words of Phillip Taft and Phillip Ross, the authors of American Labor Violence: Its Cause, Character and Outcome, “(t)he United States has had the bloodiest and most violent labor history of any industrial nation in the world.” American Labor, through its often violent struggles, has greatly contributed to the nation’s health, wealth, and freedom. This contribution consists of not only the goods produced and services performed through the dedicated efforts of workers in the work place. American labor has also served to expand political and economic rights especially among those near or at the poverty level.

The current popular conception of the blue-collar worker as an ardent adherent to the status-quo, who actively supports only apparently self-serving political positions such as protectionist tariffs or stricter immigration laws, disguises the pivotal role ordinary working people and their leaders have played in advancing political and economic justice in our country. From its inception, in the United States, the organized labor movement, as Taft and Ross point out, has not only been bloody and violent, it has also been consistently at the forefront in advancing the same principles of fairness, humanity, and empowerment that Voices for Change seeks to advance.

As far back as 1886, when workers rioted in Chicago’s Haymarket Square, those workers, who had initially demanded only a shorter work week and higher pay, eventually, as their protest intensified, spoke and demonstrated against police mistreatment and what could rightly be called ethnic profiling. The Pullman uprising that followed a few years later in 1893 occurred when the employees who produced George Pullman’s railroad dining cars went on strike and eventually took control of the city founded by their employer. These laborers where not voicing merely selfish demands. They sought a living wage, decent housing, and a genuine voice in the political process, and, they sought these things not only for themselves but also as rights for all workers.

Carroll O’Connor’s characterization of Archie Bunker, to some degree, epitomizes what has become the prevailing stereotype of the American worker. As entertaining as O’Connor’s characterization may be, the image of the “loveable bigot,” represents a gross misreading of the role that workers, organized or not, have played in the expansion of rights for all citizens in our country. From Eugene Debs through Walter Ruther to Cesar Chavez, labor’s leaders have pressed not only for better pay and improved working conditions for their followers; they have often been the vanguard in the struggle for greater civil rights, better living conditions and greater political power for all of us who do not live lives of economic privilege.

Next Labor Day and perhaps for all Labor Days to come, in addition to enjoying the hot-dogs, barbeque and other familiar trappings of the holiday, consider spending a moment or two reflecting on the role ordinary, common laborers have played in bringing about improved conditions and increased opportunities that are now open to all. Reflect also that labor’s struggle, which has not always been a peaceful or a popular one, serves as a model for the diligence and courage necessary as we pursue our own struggles. So, as you toss another burger on the grill, contemplate that Uriah Stephens defied the prevailing racial and gender prejudice of his age by actively recruiting women and African-American workers for full membership in the Knights of Labor as long ago as 1883.

ARod Took Steroids in 2003

Alex Rodriguez is now being accused of taking steroids in 2003 when he played for the Texas Rangers. The allegations were just released over the weekend and now the news has spread all over the TV and Internet about this story.

Quick ARod Steriod Poll

As A Baseball Fan, Have You Lost Respect for Alex Rodriguez?

VOTE YES or VOTE NO

Your chance to win a Lowes Gift Card

Should Alex Rodriguez return to the New York Yankees in 2009 or should they get rid of him. With all the things that came out of his book that was released by manager Joe Torre, it’s hard to determine whether or not ARod is right for baseball except for the New York Yankees.

Now it appears that most fans of the Yankees want him back and don’t care about the steroid allegation as many other players have already gone through the same thing. Why does the news just come out now if he took the steroids in 2003? Other baseball players like Barry Bonds and others have been battling this issue for many years now and it doesn’t seem to go away so ARod can definitely have a rough road ahead of him if he stays a New York Yankee or moves onto another team that wants to deal with his issues.

Being one of the highest paid players in baseball Alex Rodriguez has to now face the consequences that lie ahead of him. He finally spoke out today about this incident and it may have at least cleared the air on getting his side of the story, but may not for many of his fans.

I’m going to say this up front – I am obsessed with Michigan. Proof: my newborn son was wearing a Michigan hat within minutes of his birth. It was the first thing he wore other than a diaper. And I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

That means two things: First, like all Michigan fans I shouldn’t be left alone with anything sharp after the emotional toll of the last few years in both major sports. Second, I am, like any fan of any team, going to be more likely to be optimistic about the team than the average college football fan. That being said, I think that Michigan isn’t getting quite enough credit in the media heading into this season. It has become popular to note that Rich Rodriguez is under intense pressure (he is), the team has some issues (it does), and is facing some unwanted attention from the NCAA (it is). The conclusion from that is most often that this team is likely to only barely become bowl eligible – if they even manage that. I disagree. I think that this team has the potential to win eight games and take a solid step forward and out of the nightmare of the last two years.

If I’m right then there could be some college football picks value to be had on betting on Michigan – rare for a team this public. Here are four college football predictions for Michigan to justify my relative optimism:

Coach – Rich Rodriguez has made more than his share of mistakes in his two years at Michigan, and he hasn’t always handled the transition from Lloyd Carr to him very smoothly. It’s a mistake to totally discount him and his chances this year, though.

For a start Rodriguez has a good track record of success, so he’s not just going to forget how to coach. He’s faced a much bigger rebuilding job than most coaches in his position as well. His program couldn’t be more different than Carr’s in playing style, so there was inevitably going to be some growing pains as Rodriguez recruits players more suited to his style. He also faced a serious defection of talent in his first year when good NFL players like Jake Long, Chad Henne, and Mario Manningham all went pro and Ryan Mallett left and there weren’t guys of similar caliber behind them in the pipeline.

If there is fault to be laid here the Michigan administration should shoulder much of it for underestimating the impact of a massive change like this. Rodriguez is a strong coach, and sooner or later he’s going to show it again.

Quarterbacks – Michigan has struggled through two years of very difficult quarterback situations. The first season was a disaster – Mallett had long been tabbed as the starter, so there wasn’t any top-level talent waiting behind him when he left. Last year they were forced to play two true freshmen. Tate Forcier started strong but struggled with injures, and Denard Robinson was lightning fast but clearly not ready to play at this level.

The summer seems to have made a big difference. Robinson has made the biggest move. He’s clearly capable of passing this year. Last year he could only complete passes to the other team. He looks to be in the driver’s seat, with Forcier as a comfortable second choice.

Behind them is Devin Gardner, a true freshman who promises to be better than both of them when he gets his turn. Michigan should get by far the best QB play of the Rodriguez era, and that can’t help but improve the team.

The quarterbacks have a very solid receiving corps to work with, a deep though reasonably unproven stable of running backs, and an offensive line that should be fine. This team will be more offensively consistent than they were.

Defense – A lot of the negative attention on this team is focused on the defense, and that’s definitely an area of concern. I don’t think it is as bad as it seems, though.

There is one major problem, and we’ll get that on the table right away – the secondary is scary. Injuries, and ill-advised move to the pros, and a transfer have robbed the program of the guys who would likely have been in the top four positions on the depth chart at corner. Teams will be able to pass on Michigan.

The defense should be helped out by the front seven, though. The brilliant Brandon Graham has gone pro, but he’s left behind some nice talent to fill the gap including Craig Roh, a sophomore who is poised to become a star.

The defense has some stability finally as well – coordinator Greg Robinson is in his second year after some early instability on the defense under Rodriguez. The defense won’t be stellar, but it should be better than many anticipate.

Schedule- This is the main reason for relative optimism, because the schedule certainly has its’ opportunities.

They open at home against UConn in a game that, while no gimme, is certainly winnable. Then they travel to Notre Dame – a team that will have a lot of kinks not yet worked out with a new coaching regime and a new quarterback. That’s followed by four very winnable games – UMass, Bowling Green, Indiana, and a home game against the Spartans. Check out the football betting lines for more.

This team has a good look at five or six wins in their first six games. That will help the record as well as the confidence of the team. Two more games down the stretch are very winnable as well – Illinois and Purdue.

That leaves four tough games against currently ranked conference rivals. We’ll see what the college football handicapping line has to say. Two are at home, though, and Michigan played a couple of these opponents very close, so a win or two from among the four games isn’t an impossibility, either. Michigan started strong last year but faltered down the stretch. They will have learned a lot from that and won’t be looking to have it happen again.

Doc Moseman is one of the pioneers of the NFL and college football handicapping industry as he started his football picks service back in the early 1970s.

When we were in school we were taught the things about our planet and universe that was the knowledge at that time. With the sciences and technology that are available now, there seems to be new discoveries made almost everyday about these things.

We have only recently found out that the ninth planet in our solar system, Pluto, is now not believed to be a planet at all.

Information as this and so much more can be learned from the Discovery Channel, the Science Channel, and on PBS stations. They have different shows all the time concerning not just our own planet but others as well.

Many of these shows deal with things like our volcanoes, our weather, global warming and all the things that can be disastrous for the human race and Earth. You can view the channels programs like these are on using satellite or cable.

Recent and current programs that can be watched on these channels are about the planet Mars. Many of us are fascinated with Mars because it is the planet closest to us and the possibility that there once could have been some form of life there is intriguing to say the least.

Some scientists believe that there could still be life on Mars in the form or micro organisms. Some think that Mars could also have frozen water.

From the amazing images that have been sent back to Earth from probes that have been sent to Mars, including The Mariner that was sent to take satellite images in the 1960′s and later the Viking 1 and 2, that actually landed on Mars and sent back images, we were able to see the planet’s surface up close and personal for the first time.

The most recent of out exploration of Mars, The Mars Global Surveyor, transmitted images back for four times longer than scientists expected before it finally shut down in 2006.

Though Mars is one of the most interesting topics discussed in these documentaries about space and our planet, there are shows that deal with more distant planets, asteroids, comets, black holes, dying stars, and the entire huge universe. The recent discoveries that have been made about our universe are amazing and seemingly unending.

The television programming that is available to us today through satellite and cable is a science lover’s dream. You can watch something new, informative, and interesting everyday and still have more to see tomorrow. It is like having the most up to date space probe results and scientific research available everyday in our own living room..

Predictions for 2007
1. Google’s early entry to radio advertising will bear fruit prompting Google to start examining television advertising.
When it comes to the allocation of advertising dollars, Google fundamentally altered the rules of the game. In the past, mass market advertisers would gamble on a shotgun approach to ad-spending. The options consisted of newspaper, magazine, telephone directory, radio or television. While each medium could provide statistics showing their print-run and audience, tracking the success or failure of these types of advertising has always posed a problem for manufacturers and retailers. When Google popularized the pay-per-click model in which advertisers only pay when a person actually views the ad, a new model was born.
Google’s billing model will have to alter slightly to meet the radio and video formats however, as digital radio and television becomes the norm, tracking will become far easier. Google will be able to charge by the listener or viewer though it remains to be seen if listeners or viewers will actually listen to or view advertisements on digital radio or television.
2. A consortium of major newspapers and publishers will form a consolidated advertising group to combat Google. The initiative will fail.
In 2006, Google literally sucked much of the money out of the pool of resources shared by publishers on or offline. With its venture into newspaper advertising, Google has threatened the classic golden goose of traditional news publishing, the classified ad section. News gathering organizations, already reeling from a loss of advertising income to other facets of the online marketplace should band together much as several airlines have to reduce cost and difficulties booking tickets. The newspapers and magazines could easily promote local, regional, national and even international advertising opportunities at a much lower cost than they could individually. If they can band together to undercut Google’s costs is another question however they will either figure out how to collectively raise advertising income or they will become Google advertising affiliates.
3. Congress will initiate an open investigation of pay-per-click advertising models.

We already know of closed-door congressional inquiries into the PPC market. Stemming from the AIT vs. Google case, we have learned of FBI and Secret Service investigations, and in-camera hearings before congressional committees. We also know of at least two republican and one democratic senators interested in opening further investigations.
How this one plays out is a mystery, but it will likely play out this year. Thus far, the investigations have been kept behind closed doors, a silent testimony to the strength of Google’s lobby effort in Washington DC. No matter how talented and strenuous the lobby, an investigation of Click Fraud will be made public sometime this year.
4. An investigation of pay-per-click advertising models will threaten Google’s stock values.
Hence the strong lobby effort. If common sense doesn’t threaten Google’s stock values, the threat of congressional oversight will.
5. Google will drop below $450 before the end of first quarter 2007. If Google drops below $425, watch for a major landslide in California.
The market is softening. With expected slowdowns in the housing, building, manufacturing and retail sectors, tech investors are showing signs of skittishness going into 2007. The first part of January is traditionally a time when the market readjusts to decisions made by investors in the last weeks of December. Many sell shares towards the end of the year in order to clarify their incomes for tax time. This year, a number of analysts have advised clients to unload some of their Google shares as a hedge against an expected downturn in share values.
While Google remains far above the $450 range, expect it to drop to around $450 by mid-March. It’s earnings to assets ratios are way too extended and though it has better prospects than any of its competitors, the search advertising market is changing rapidly. The only thing that saves Google from dropping is rapid entry into the television advertising market. The first signs of a weakening AdWords market will be the catalyst of the first round of a Goog landslide. If the share prices hit $425, watch for major selling. If it goes below $400, buy a boat.
6. Yahoo will find focus and direction.
Having freed itself from the sticky peanut butter mess it found itself in late 2006, Yahoo has made the first steps towards reorganizing their messy organization. The battle between Hollywood and Sunnyvale has been settled with the geeks coming out on top of the agents. This year is Yahoo’s year to stage a serious comeback or to languish into obscurity. I suspect the former. However, all the major algorithmic search engines will face a new challenger this year
7. The major search engines will face a new and socially adept competitor this year.

Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has hooked up with Amazon to produce a human-powered search engine that will be released sometime in 2007. This collaborative effort to dethrone Google will be moderately successful. Wikisari will quickly become one of the biggies, but Google will still be king.
8. 2007 will be the year Internet marketers discover the power of online video.
The use of video will become a standard component of online communication. Advertisements, long-distance conferencing and public relations in general will be affected. The advancement of video online will set the stage for a major realignment in the traditional entertainment industry.
9. DIY Infotainment Distribution for fun and profit.
Using tools like the Yahoo Publisher Network, YouTube, Flickr and distributed podcasts, webmasters and private websites will start to replace professionally developed network broadcasts as an information and entertainment source.

Add efficient monetization to the mix through Yahoo Search Marketing ads and you have an effective enticement for adventurous webmasters to try entering the market.
10. YPN will see challengers this year.
While the Yahoo Publisher Network is by far the most advanced program of its kind, expect to see other search entities introducing their own webmaster friendly monetized information and entertainment distribution programs.
11. The search marketing environment will further fragment with the following sectors seeing;
- stronger gains: Video, Social Networking, Niche marketing, Vertical search
- weaker margins: Traditional domain-driven SEO, Small-scale PPC
12. Changes to the SEO Billing Model
Many traditional SEOs will be forced to adopt PPC style billing. Fees will be charged based on the success of a campaign as opposed to flat fees charged up front or on a monthly basis. Greg Boser has written and commented on this several times, most recently in a conversation with WebmasterRadio’s Daron Babin on the last Rainmaker show of 2006.
13. Consolidation in the Search Marketing Sector
In 2007, financial pressures faced by firms in the SEO part of the search marketing industry will produce a sector that looks very different from the one we work in now. Watch for consolidation between allied SEO, SEM, Public Relations and link-building firms as clients demand full-service vendors.
14. Hasty La Vista
Early Microsoft Vista users will eat a number of worms, catch a bunch of viruses and end up as Zombies. As a result, savvy IT departments put off the update until Microsoft can prove it has created a master-patch.
15. Patch This Microsoft
That big patch will be ready for download in 2008, effectively delaying the rollout of Vista for another year.
2 Bonus Predictions
16. Duke Nukem Forever
Duke Nukem Forever will be noted as the greatest game that never was.
17. Planet Fortune
Webmasters will have more rewarding opportunities this year than ever. 2007 will see the fruition of several major initiatives started in 2005 or 2006 such as the YPN, online video advertising, and the combination of on and offline advertising. With the largest public relations and marketing firms in the world taking serious note of search, the search marketing industry will be truly considered part of the mainstream ad industry. This will empower webmasters as more attention, energy and assistance is directed towards helping webmasters present interesting content framed by increasingly expensive advertising.

Kabul is the capital of Afghanistan and an economic and cultural centre of the state. It is a 3000 year old country, strategically located along the trade routes of South and Central Asia. Kabul is being redeveloped after long been the target of rebel groups and is under a reconstruction process. The climate of Kabul is warm and moderate for most of the year with low humidity while winters are short. The population of the city reflects multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-confessional characteristics of Afghanistan.

The education in Kabul has also improved after several schools and colleges reopened in 2002. Some of the known education institutes include International School of Kabul, American University of Afghanistan, Dawat University, Kabul Medical University, Polytechnical University of Kabul, National Military Academy of Afghanistan, etc. Kabul, on its way of development has a number of banks, hotels, shopping malls, museums, mosques, parks, mausoleums, etc. A concept design called the City of Light Development has been proposed for multi-function commercial, historic and cultural development of the city. Many national and international NGOs (non-government organizations) are also involved in various activities to assist development and provide humanitarian relief to victims in Afghanistan. Kabul has been a manifestation of power and reign but continuous conflicts led to destruction of its urban identity.

Since, different political and social opinions exist within the country, the major challenge is drafting a unified development strategy. It is currently competing with local, regional and western inspirations in the process of rebuilding. It is believed that restoration of Kabul’s urbanism will be instrumental in restructuring Afghanistan on the whole. Its plan for next five years has identified security, governance and economic and social development as priority areas. The comprehensive work performed to reconstruct the city is evident of the fact that Kabul and its economy are in a developmental phase. It is being re-shaped by international organizations, reconstructed from scratch and thus, it has a huge scope for growth in coming decades. The economy of Kabul is expected to become a blend of both agricultural and urban sector. Administrative, commercial and service sectors are found to be of major interest to the locals.

These sectors anyway demand lot of attention, offering huge scope for employment. There is an immense need for workforce in Kabul and in order to cater to this need, Employment Services Centres in Afghanistan has been setup. Both natives planning to return to the country and expatriates/ outsiders are finding these employment centers a useful way of getting jobs in Afghanistan. The needs of jobseekers and employers are met on this common platform as both are able to meet each other. On one hand, employers get trained staff while jobseekers get jobs in Kabul on the other. Jobs in Kabul are available across all levels and all fields possible. From directorial positions to managerial to executive levels, firms are hiring both skilled and semi-skilled workers. Some of the vacancies available in Kabul are:

General Manager
MEP Engineer
Sales Manager
Operation Manager
Marketing Consultant
Interior Designer
Project Manager
Civil Engineer and others

Construction sector is booming in Kabul as constant bombings and military attacks had devastated the infrastructure. Jobs in construction are in plenty and so, are in the beverage industry of Kabul. Jobs in Middle East provide abundant opportunities to expatriates looking for employment overseas. Jobs in Gulf, UAE and Middle East are already a favorite among foreigners as they are high paying and offer tax-free salaries. The primary reason for generating employment in Kabul is the paramount objective of its rebuilding. Another could be as said by Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, ‘Men who work have no time for war’.
